A long narrow garden in St Albans

Perched on the slopes of a historic street in StAlbans (and a real challenge in terms of access) two long thin gardens, one higher than than the other, have been knocked into one with a formal garden overlooking a gravel garden.

It was a leap of faith, on the client’s part, to devote one of the gardens to gravel but it has provided great opportunities to explore the cottage garden style which contrasts so well with the complex nature of the buildings and the formal garden above.

The client’s enthusiasm for plants (roses in particular) is infectious and the garden is a testament to their ongoing care and a great example of what can be achieved where space is restricted.
