Can Gardens Save the Planet?

Ok, time to fess up.

I wrote this article a while back but without a means of publishing it.

It was too long for Instagram (which increasingly feels like an echo chamber) and I’m not on Substack so it’s been smouldering on the back burner for some time.

Peter, my web developer suggested a blog. It sounded a little outdated but the idea of something retro was weirdly appealing.

“Treat it as an experiment” he said. “And see where it leads.”

So here we are. Urban Gardener has been revived largely to write this one piece, partly to set my stall out and also to address an elephant in the room that no one in garden media wants to talk about.

As I mentioned it’s long so, to save you reaching for the Tramadol, I’m splitting it into three.

It may irk a few gardeners but this elephant in the room really needs to be acknowledged if we are to make any genuine effort to minimize our impact on the planet and the very life-support system that we and many other life-forms depend on.
